Miss Petaluma On…Lauryn Rocking Jil Sander

Posted in Fashion on April 16, 2011 by Mums That Slay

Now, I’m sure the people at Jil Sander HQ love customers who know confidence in fashion, but I don’t think they expected this from one of the hottest SS11 runway offerings.

Jil Sander – bold, nautical, stripes, minimal, sophisticated, billowing
Lauryn Hill – Coachelle festival, stripes, wild, layers, rock, colour blocking, what’s with the double hats?

I find it so upsetting to hear beautiful young girls hate their naturally kinky hair.  Thanks Sesame Street for a wonderful song:

Miss Petaluma On…Here Comes the Sun SS11 Fashion Weeks

Posted in Fashion on September 28, 2010 by Mums That Slay

Ok, so going by what i’ve seen of the SS11 shows – next season’s going to be mighty satisfactory…. What’s interesting is the clear divide between two style camps.  1. continues the minimalism trend of AW and warps into futuristic pop brights and silhouettes 2. harks back to my favourite era, the late 70s early 80s, what i’ll in true Petaluma-style coin Soul Sister chic (this is the one i’m supporting).

Biscuit layers at Alexander Wang

Summer leathers at Altuzarra

Futuristic monochrome at Antonio Beradi

What he does best Calvin Klein

A touch of Windrush chic at Christopher Kane

Flasher chic D Squared 2

Floral mania at Erdem

Painterly prints at Felder Felder

Slick styling at Halston

Art Deco a la Miss Baker at Holly Fulton

Textured brights at House of Holland

Ladylike at Jason Wu

The return of Jordan Dunn (hurrah!) at Burberry

Breezy Julien Macdonald

My favourite show - Marc Jacobs

Ye hah at Moschino

Modern pastels at Phillip Lim

Funky sensations at Richard Nicoll

Sculptural hues at William Tempest

Miss Petaluma On…Ooh La La La Lauren’s Back

Posted in Style on August 30, 2010 by Mums That Slay

Hoorah, after many years of mourning the superstar that could have been… Lauren Hill is doing the rounds again.  Seven kids later, she’s shed the laid-back cool of the 90s – think locks, white vest and jeans and has become somewhat more….eclectic.  Combining all the hot looks, grunge (parka), oversized glasses, monochrome and Studio 54 (flicked hair) – I’ll leave you to decide what you think.  I quite like it, she looks great and I’m just so pleased to see her back on track!

Miss Petaluma On…Corinne Bailey Rae’s New Look

Posted in Beauty on July 20, 2010 by Mums That Slay

The lovely Corinne Bailey Rae has not had the best of years – her Jazz musician husband died of a heroin overdose, leaving the young widow to pull herself out of a very dark funk.  So it was great to see her looking so serene and beautiful at the Mercury Awards Photocall.  Looking forward to her new album!!
